This Tuesday get a taste of Bhutan from these rockers from Thimpu.
Gaining inspiration from western Rock and Roll, the Bhutan based rock band, NORTH H, was founded in 2014, under the initiative of the band’s vocalist and guitarist, Ugyen Tenzin. He was deeply influenced by Rock and Roll legends such as AC/DC, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, KISS, Pink Floyd, and Guns and Roses. Taking a cue from his own vision in firmly establishing a rock band in Bhutan, Ugyen was joined by his brother, bassist Karma Dupchu, as a permanent member. The band now includes Kapil Chettri at drums, and Tej Narayan Pradhan on lead guitar. A few demos, both within and outside the country were more than enough for them to become professionals and to start visualize their dreams. The band has several original songs and cover songs to their credit. NORTH H believes that “music in any form should touch the heart of the people” and aspires to do just that by introducing hard rock, which are yet to be explored in Bhutan. NORTH H released their first single in 2015, titled “My Darling” which was largely appreciated by audiences in Bhutan as well as in the Netherlands, where the song received radio play. NORTH H released their second Believe in February, 2016.The band has performed many gigs in Bhutan, receiving heart warming ovations from the audiences. They also performed in India and Nepal. North H released their first album Into the Night in October, 2016. North H became the first band from Bhutan to be signed by a Record Label when they were signed by El Mundo Records in November. The band is being managed by El Mundo Foundation, an NGO based in the Netherlands.
